Garlic Chives In Flower In My Organic Garden
Had to quickly post this pic of a small planting of my garlic chives. They’re flowering at the moment and are quite beautiful. It’s worth growing them just for the flowers. They look great planted among roses.
You can use the leaves in your cooking the same way you would normal chives – they just have a more garlic flavor, but still quite mild. They will tolerate hot, dry, and even sandy conditions, but will grow better with regular watering. They divide easily, so if you know someone with some, you could see if they’ll give you a small division to start you off.
One of the other advantages of growing herbs in your organic garden is to confuse insect pests from searching out and munching on your other veggies. This is one of the methods used in “Companion Planting“, just one of the techniques often used in organic gardening to control pests without using chemicals.
Happy Organic Gardening, Healthy Living…
Warmly,
Julie
