Cleaning Up My Organic Garden

I’ve spent most of the day (on and off) out in my organic veggie garden cleaning up plants that are past their best or finished producing. Remember it’s almost autumn (fall) here in South Australia.

So I’ve pulled out all the spent corn, rocket, a couple of zucchini vines and tidied up all the tomatoes – they were so tall that the stakes couldn’t support them properly and they were all bending over each other. So I’ve trimmed them and provided extra support in the hope that they will continue to flower and fruit well into autumn. Our climate is quite mild in autumn, so they should continue to grow and ripen.

I also put up a support frame to grow my snow peas on, which I’m soaking overnight to plant tomorrow. Cleaning up in my organic garden makes way for seeds to go in for the winter vegetables – pak choy, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, broad beans and onions, plus a few other things I haven’t thought of right now. I’m so tired after my day hard at it that I think I’ll have a nice glass of red (or two :-) ) and curl up with a good book.

Happy Organic Gardening, healthy living….

warmly,

Julie
