Abundance in my vegetable garden, despite the heat.
It’s still pretty hot here. The forecast is for 38C / 100F tomorrow and 42C / 107F on Thursday. Hopefully my vegetable garden will cope and continue with the abundance that’s starting to flow now. (pics in a few days).
We’ve got soooooo many zucchinis – I swear they are only pencil size in the evening and something magical happens overnight and “zing” they become enormous by morning! We’re enjoying some of the sweetest corn I’ve ever grown. And the tomatoes are ripening with perfection. (I grew a heirloom variety of tomato this year which ripens red, but with green stripes – very sweet and delicious).
A few things have suffered in the heat, but all things considered, our supply of fresh vegetables is bountiful. The broccoli and lettuce have both gone to seed, but I have more lettuce in and will plant more next week to keep up a good supply. My girls (chickens) get to gorge on any waste from the veggie garden and in return are providing us with eggs that have now gone from being the normal yellow colour, to a bright orange – quite extraordinary!
More soon – happy Organic Gardening,
Julie
