Propagating Herbs From My Organic Garden
I’ve been propagating herbs from my organic garden for the past four months or so, leading up to my first market day at the Barossa Farmer’s Market – which is this Saturday, July 5th. Here’s a photo of some of the herbs I’ll have available on a regular basis.
I have grown them on in our poly tunnel and have started hardening off those that can take the cold outside. I have many more plants than this – some in 6inch pots and some that are in 6-pack if I can call it that!
Most herbs are relatively easy to propagate. I think the challenge for me will be working out how many I need of a particular herb for each market. I’ve certainly had fun getting ready for my first market day though.
I don’t have organic certification, but all my plants are grown organically. I make up my own potting mix – roughly 3parts organic potting soil, 3parts coco peat, 3parts compost, 1part vermiculite. I use an organic fertilizer made by Neutrog (an Australian company), called rapid raiser. It’s actually an organic fertilizer made for lawns, but is perfect for potted herbs too.
I’ll have more info on our poly tunnel adventures soon, with our lettuce that we’re growing with nutrient film technology.
Happy Organic Gardening, Healthy Living…
