Keeping My Mint Restricted In My Organic Garden

There are so many mint varieties available now, that there’s bound to be one that suits everyone. Some of the most common ones include: common mint, peppermint, spearmint and apple mint. I also have chocolate mint and a variegated apple mint. There are still more varieties.

But what I want to talk about is that you need to keep mint confined in a pot or container of some kind – unless you want it absolutely everywhere through your garden. It grows so quickly and will escape through borders without any problems at all.

mint growing in containers

As you can see, I have my mints in both sides of an old laundry trough and several pots. The other thing to remember if your pots are on the ground is that once the roots reach the bottom of the pot the mint will most likely root in the soil and escape that way.

So if you plan to keep them in pots directly on soil you’ll need to place weed mat, pavers, cement or some other material that will restrict the roots.
